Recognising Young Peoples’ Achievements

The Schools in Action (1993-2007) and  the Young Citizens Award programme (2007-2010) gave support and recognition to projects led by young people which demonstrated their commitment to be active citizens, making a difference in their communities .   Both awards were made possible with the sponsorship and support of the Vodafone Foundation.

The programme commenced each autumn and culminated each summer in a  celebratory event, typically held in June, at which all the young people showcased their work and experiences – as well as generally having a great day!  Projects typically fell into one or more of the following categories:

  • Peer Mediation
  • Global Citizenship
  • Environmental
  • Arts
  • Community safety

Other Sources of Project Funding and Support

If you have a project involving children/young people here are some ideas for other sources of funding and support to help with projects. This is not an exhaustive list and if you have had help from an organisation that we haven’t included here please let us know. We have split the list into sections to make it easier to use but some of the organisations may cover more than one topic so it is worth taking a look at them all.

In addition to these ideas, your local county, district and town/parish councils are an excellent source of information about funding that may be available in your area. Each LEA has a specialist post dedicated to drugs/alcohol education issues. You should find details of who to contact on their websites.
