Thames Valley Restorative Justice Service (TVRJS) is at the forefront of research, development and delivery of restorative justice in the adult Criminal Justice system in England and Wales.   We are recognised internationally as a centre of excellent practice and are the most experienced area working post-sentence in the country.

Since 2001 we have provided RJ conferences and interventions as a requirement of community sentences for serious adult offenders and as part of custodial sentences, pre and post release.

We have membership of the Restorative Justice Council and in 2010 we were awarded the Howard League for Penal Reform’s prestigious Adult Community Sentence award. We are one of two partners selected and grant funded to assist the Ministry of Justice in a national RJ Capacity Building initiative during the period 2011-2014.  All our facilitators either hold or are working towards the Skills for Justice (NVQ) in restorative practice.

We see ourselves as having equal responsibility for the restoration of victims and offenders.  We provide impartial facilitation of restorative justice conferences, post sentence, in the context of serious adult offending involving violence, household burglaries, criminal damage and other offences involving personal harm to a victim.

All our practice is evidence based and Home Office funded research indicates that RJ conferences in the context of the above offence categories produce the greatest benefit to victims and the greatest reduction in the frequency of re-offending.  We retain ongoing links with academic research faculties to ensure continuous practice improvement.
